Omaka aerodrome, (base
elevation 100ft) the home of the Marlborough Gliding Club lies amongst the
finest vineyards in the southern hemisphere.
The same dry sunny weather
that produces the best Savignon Blancs in the world gives superb gliding and
consistent flying. Blenheim (New Zealand's sunniest town) lies in the Wairau
Valley and is surrounded by mountains to the north and south. The prevailing
norwester winds combine with excellent topography for superb soaring.
The foothills of New
Zealand's Southern Alps lie immediately behind Omaka's runway and
provides access by ridge, thermal and/or convergence lift to this backbone
mountain range of the South Island.
Every sunday. Saturdays as
required.
